“We’re all in the Writing Boat Together”
Thanks to her background in teaching English and journalism, acting in college productions, and writing for her community newspaper, Chris is comfortable with meeting and giving presentations to people of all ages in a variety of settings.
Since “Twist of Fate” debuted in February 2009, she has addressed hundreds of students gathered in gymnasiums and handfuls of students in individual classrooms.
Her PowerPoint presentation, “Coming Full Circle” illustrates the importance of childhood passions leading to future endeavors.
As a child, Chris loved writing and reading—especially about her favorite subject, horses.
This passion launched her on a roundabout journey that inevitably led her back to doing just what she loved most as a young girl, working with words, as a columnist, book editor and author.
Chris’ 12 years of writing for The Washington Missourian has given her extensive experience expressing herself in serial stories for young readers, the Book Buzz column and in feature and travel articles. She understands that all writers, from first grade to infinity, struggle with coming up with ideas, expressing themselves and turning off the editor their heads.
Her upbeat belief that “we’re all in the same writing boat” can help students realize that no matter their age, writing gets better with practice, practice, practice—and that peer editing is as vital in school as it is in the real world of education, journalism and business.
Chris does not charge for presentations, but asks to be compensated for travel. To hear what others have to say about Chris’ presentations, visit our testimonials page.
Classroom VisitOn Nov. 14th, Chris spoke to Mrs. Lipscomb's Fourth Grade Class at Westchester Elementary School in Kirkwood. Her grandson, Miles, is pictured to her right in the green shirt.
